Below you will find the answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). If you cannot find the
answer to your question, either in the FAQs or in the detailed help,
please send us your query to help@jbop.com. We will do our
best to answer your question within 24 hours.
WHAT ARE "SUBJECTS" AND "PACKS"?
Subjects are the eight jbop content areas – Holidays, Bible, Values, Israel, Shabbat, Prayer,
Heroes, and History. Packs are the available jbop Activity Packs for a selected Subject. Currently, there are twenty Activity Packs available.
If you install the jbop Starter Kit CD-ROM, Welcoming Shabbat is active. This is the DEMO
Pack. When you register online and type in your activation code, which you received with the
CD-ROM, all five Activity Packs become active.
WHAT’S "EASY" AND "ADVANCED"?
The jbop Activity Center contains six activity areas – the same basic activities for all
elementary-age kids. Easy adjusts the level of the activities to fit First and Second Graders.
Advanced adjusts the level to fit Fourth and Fifth Graders – and possibly Sixth Graders. Third
Graders can go either way, depending on teachers’ and students’ preferences.
Level can be changed at any time. If, for example, students master the Questionator questions
on the Easy Level and want to try the Advanced Level, they simply return to the Home Page, choose
Advanced, and click again on the Questionator activity button.
WHAT ARE THE SIX ACTIVITY AREAS, AND WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
"EASY" AND "ADVANCED" IN EACH ACTIVITY AREA?
In TALI’S SECRET MESSAGE kids decode a message by solving clues. Once they have decoded the
message, they hear the entire message read (while animations appear for key words). They can
then review follow-up screens with basic information and skill-building on the theme. For
example, Welcoming Shabbat follow-up screens include all the Friday night blessings, which kids
can hear and read; Hanukka follow-up screens include the Hanukka candlelighting blessings; etc.
Easy has fewer clues to solve and kids select one right answer from a choice of four. Advanced
has more clues, and a long scrollable word list from which to make a choice.
In MATT’S MAGIC STORY kids view a "multimedia midrash". This presents important
concepts on the theme through a midrash-style story, emphasizing a number of Hebrew keywords.
Kids are asked to click on various items along the way. There is no difference between levels.
In ADAM’S ANIMATED STORYTELLER kids create original animations for each page of a prepared story.
The story is relevant to the theme of the Activity Pack – the Creation story for
Welcoming Shabbat, the Joseph story for Joseph, the Hanukka story for Hanukka, the
"Feathers" story for Lashon Ha-Ra, etc. Kids can choose which “bops” to place on which
background to illustrate the page, and then can make bops look how they like, say what they like,
and move where they like. Kids can also write their own stories or midrashim and animate them.
Easy allows users to place bops on backgrounds and assign Look, Say, and Move functions to each
bop. Advanced allows users to create four-part animated sequences for each bop (which they view
by clicking on Play Page).
In CARA’S QUESTIONATOR kids answer interactive questions (in Questionator Game) and answer more
reflective questions or compose their own questions (in Question Pad). Easy asks simpler
questions in the Questionator Game, and more basic reflection questions in the Question Pad.
Advanced offers harder questions in both.
In BETH’S BRAINFOREST kids play quick, fun vocabulary-based games.
In Letter Catch they catch only the letters from the Hebrew words which appear at the side. In
Easy there is one Hebrew word presented, and letters fall slowly and one at a time. In Advanced
there are three Hebrew words presented, and letters fall quickly and simultaneously.
In What’s That Story? they find all the hidden words in the grid, after which they hear a story
using all the words. In Easy kids find hidden words at their own pace. In Advanced they work
"against the clock" – before the detective reaches the other side.
In Match by Match they make matches – same picture, but one with an English label and one with a
Hebrew label. In Easy kids make matches at their own pace. In Advanced they work "against
the clock", and receive more points the faster they finish.
In DJ MAX’S MUSIC MAKER kids hear a song on the theme, and learn how to sing it (karaoke). In
Melody Max they learn how to play the song on a keyboard, and in Studio Max they can record
additional tracks, or compose and record their own songs. In Melody Max, the phrases to
"play back" on the keyboard are shorter in Easy and longer in Advanced.
WHEN I ENTER AN ACTIVITY, I HEAR AN INTRODUCTION. IF I’VE HEARD IT
BEFORE, HOW DO I INTERRUPT IT?
Just click on the Kid Button in the upper-left corner (the one who’s doing the talking). One
click will stop the Introduction. (Be careful – a second click will take you back to the
Home Page!)
HOW DO I DO EACH ACTIVITY?
For detailed help on how to use the activities in the jbop Activity Center, click
here.
Here are brief instructions for entering each of the activities. To begin, you pick a Subject,
then an Activity Pack, then a Level (Easy or Advanced). Now you're ready to do activities.
Click on TALI (green button) to decode a Secret Message. When you've solved it, you'll get
follow-up screens with blessings, songs, and more. In Advanced you'll have more words to solve,
plus a scrollable word list for solving clues.
Click on MATT (purple button) to view a Magic Story. (Same for both levels.)
Click on ADAM (blue button) to make animations in the Animated Storyteller. You can animate the
prepared text (Adam's Story), or make up your own story (My Story). In Easy you put bops on
backgrounds, and control Look, Say, and Move. In Advanced you can make four-frame sequences.
Don't forget to click on Play Page to see your moves and sequences for that page.
Click on CARA (red button) to answer interactive questions in the Questionator Game. (Do it as
many times as you want to get higher scores!) Advanced questions are more challenging than Easy.
In Question Pad you can type answers to "think-about questions", or type in your own original
questions.
Click on BETH (orange button) to play interactive vocabulary games. Catch the right Hebrew
letters in Letter Catch. (Advanced has three words at a time - and it's fast!) Find hidden
words in What's That Story? (Advanced is against the "clock" - the moving detective.) Make
word matches in Match by Match. (Advanced is against the clock, with faster time giving you
more points.)
Click on MAX (yellow button) to learn a song in the Music Maker. Click on Play to hear the song,
and Voice Off to do "karaoke". Click on Melody Max to learn how to play the song on the
keyboard. Click on Studio Max to record more tracks for the song (Max's Song) or to record your
own original song (My Song).
When you're in an activity, click on the Kid Button in the upper-left corner to skip the
introduction. Click again on the Kid Button at any time to return to this Home Page to change
your Level, pick a new Activity (or a new Pack), or go to the POT OF STUFF. In the Pot of Stuff
your progress is recorded in a Star Chart, and all your Saved Stuff (animations, songs, and
questions) gets stored and can be opened, emailed and printed.
Have fun!!!
HOW DO I RETURN TO THE HOME PAGE?
Click on the Kid Button in the upper-left corner of the screen.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I RE-ENTER AN ACTIVITY FROM THE HOME
PAGE?
Entering an activity from the Home Page is always a fresh start. Stories and games begin over,
as if you’re doing it for the first time.
BUT WHAT IF I WANT TO GO BACK TO SOMETHING I’VE ALREADY
DONE?
You get to it from your Pot of Stuff. When you click on the Pot of Stuff (beneath the Chicken
on the Home Page), you’ll first see a Star Chart. The Star Chart records everything you tried
in that Activity Pack, and how you did – including your high scores. If you select Saved
Stuff at the top right, you get menus listing all the Animated Stories, Question Pads, and
Recorded Songs you’ve made for that Activity Pack. Select one, and then select Go To, and
you’ve re-entered something you’ve already made. You can show it to someone, or make any
changes you want. And you can always get back to it the same way.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO IN THE POT OF STUFF?
You can print or email your Star Chart. You can also print or email Question Pads, print
Animated Story screens, and email Recorded Songs.
HOW DO I EXIT FROM JBOP?
Click on “jbop exit” in the upper-right corner of the Home Page.
